HARRISBURG -- The former president of Penn State University has been charged in connection with the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse case. Graham Spanier faces a list of charges related to a cover-up at PSU.
More charges have also been filed against former Penn State administrators Gary Shultz and Tim Curley.
There has been speculation for months now that Spanier would face charges and that has now happened.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly and Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan announced the charges at a noon news conference in Harrisburg.
The charges filed against Spanier include perjury, endangering the welfare of children, obstruction of administrative law, penalties for failure to report, and conspiracy.
Similar charges have also been added to the list of charges against former PSU athletic director Curley and former vice president Shultz. They are already heading to trial in January, charged with perjury and failing to report the abuse. Now they're in more trouble.
Charges filed Thursday against Curley and Shultz include perjury, endangering the welfare of children, and conspiracy.
Graham Spanier was forced out as president at Penn State only four days after charges were filed against Jerry Sandusky and two other Penn State administrators.
Now he is charged with being involved in covering up Sandusky's abuse at Penn State.
Over the summer, former F.B.I. director Louis Freeh's investigation turned up emails from Spanier indicating he knew about two incidents of abuse involving Sandusky on the Penn State campus, one in 1998, the other in 2001. To read the entire Freeh report, click here.
Spanier told a grand jury he knew nothing about any sexual abuse. Freeh said Spanier, Joe Paterno and administrators Curley and Shultz were actively involved in a cover up.
This comes a day after Jerry Sandusky was transferred to a state prison in Greene County, south of Pittsburgh, where he will serve his sentence of 30 to 60 years.
Sandusky was convicted in June of sexually abusing 10 boys over more than a decade; many of them were abused right on the PSU campus.
Now there are new charges against Penn State administrators for covering up that abuse.
